Alessandra Hereman

Alessandra Hereman is a Guyanese born, Trinidad-based trans woman, LGBTQ activist and feminist researcher with extensive experience working with LGBTQ people. Alessandra began her activism in 2014, advocating for access to health services for populations affected by HIV, violence and discrimination. Over the years, she has worked with Guyana-based and regional organizations to conduct research and training on sexuality and gender. She was the project coordinator for Guyana Trans United and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Trinidad-based feminist civil society group, CAISO: Sex and Gender Justice. With an academic background in Sociology and Interdisciplinary Gender Studies, her research and activism focuses on sexualities, bodies and power. Her interests include sci-fi movies, pre-colonial archaeology and an intense curiosity about the nature of the universe.
